Casimir Caziel (1906-198), born in Poland under the name Kazimierz Zielenkiewicz, is a major painter of the second School of Paris. Arriving in Paris in 1937, he frequents avant-garde circles, becomes friends with Pablo Picasso and moves in the circle of the great dealer Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler. After figurative beginnings influenced by post-impressionism and cubism, he moves towards a personal geometric abstraction, characterized by a subtle balance between color, light, and construction. Member of the Groupe Espace, he exhibited notably at the Galerie Allard, the prestigious Galerie Bernheim-Jeune, the Salon de Mai as well as the Grabowski Gallery in London. His works are today preserved in important public collections, notably at the Musée national d'Art moderne – Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Musée national de Varsovie, testifying to his place among the great foreign artists who deeply marked the Parisian art scene of the post-war period.
