Goncalo Mar

Gonçalo Mar (Lisbon, 1974) is one of the most prominent figures in contemporary Portuguese street art. Active since the late 1990s, he has developed a distinctive visual language that blends graffiti, comics, animation and influences from Japanese culture, creating an imaginative world populated by hybrid and visionary figures.

Trained in fashion design and with professional experience in animation, he has expanded his artistic practice from the street to canvas and installation, while maintaining a strong focus on drawing, composition and visual storytelling.

Characterised by vibrant colours and atmospheres suspended between dream and reality, his works can now be found in public spaces, museums and international collections, contributing to the identity and evolution of contemporary Portuguese urban art.
