Philumism is the visible thread between feeling and matter — a way to reveal the invisible connections that unite people, time, memory, and the universe.

Biography

Rene Reza is the creative pseudonym of artist Igor Ryazantsev, whose name translates as “reborn." The idea reflects a profound transformation that began after his discovery of Philumism in 2011—a unique artistic technique and philosophy that completely redefined his creative path.

The term Philumism derives from the Latin filum (“thread"). Instead of painting with a brush, Rene Reza applies acrylic paint through the needle of a syringe, laying thousands of fine colored lines onto black-primed canvas. These thread-like strands form intricate textured surfaces that resemble woven acrylic tapestries, where the image seems to grow organically from the material itself rather than being painted onto it.

The technique is rooted in patience, craftsmanship, and experimentation. Variations in needle width create delicate webs, dense reliefs, and sculptural textures, transforming painting into a tactile and almost architectural process. For Rene Reza, Philumism is not only a visual method but a philosophy about the invisible connections linking people, events, memory, time, and space.

Inspired in part by string theory and the idea that the universe is composed of vibrating threads, his work explores the relationship between the macrocosm and microcosm, science and spirituality, emotion and matter. Through layered acrylic “threads," he visualizes unseen energies and emotional connections that exist beyond ordinary perception.

Since 2016, Rene Reza has collaborated with his wife Ksenia on the monumental project The Great Silk Road—an evolving large-scale “ART-Wikipedia" conceived as a one-kilometer-long artwork composed of interconnected 2×2 meter panels exploring civilizations, mythology, and the many techniques of Philumism.

His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Salon des Beaux-Arts at Carrousel du Louvre in Paris and the solo exhibition Connecting Threads at Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art. Rene Reza is listed in the Guinness World Records as the creator of a one-of-a-kind artistic technique. His works are held in museum and private collections across Russia, France, Germany, Kazakhstan, and the United States.

Through Philumism, Rene Reza transforms thread into both material and metaphor—creating paintings that connect science, emotion, and human experience through a new visual language.
