Biography

Born in 1996, Talia Ramkilawan is a South African artist. She studied sculpture at Michaelis School of Fine Art. 

Ramkilawan’s unique approach to art, incorporates still life and portraiture into her woven paintings. Achieved by utilizing the rug-hooking technique Ramkilawan’s works investigate personal themes, including the displacement she experienced as a result of her South Asian heritage, and the intersectionality of her experiences as a queer Indian woman.

In 2022, Ramkilawan’s tapestries were exhibited in Japan, South Africa, and Italy. In addition to being an active artist, Ramkilawan is also a high school art teacher.
