Equipo Realidad

Equipo Realidad is a group of artists, comprised of Joan Cardells (Valencia, 1948) and Jorge Ballester (Valencia, 1941-2014). They graduated from the San Carlos Fine Arts school in 1964, they participated in activities pertaining to the Free Student Union, resistant towards the Francisco Franco government. Equipo Realidad works with the Union of students and for alternative libraries of Valencia, and produces decorative panels in acrylic paint.

The duo began their career in 1966 and remained active until 1976. They belonged to the community of Valencia « Chronicle of Reality », a movement of critic figuration and pop aesthetics which was developed during the 60's. They address themes like war, politics, consumer, femininity and role of art.

Equipo Realidad expressed dissatisfaction with the official culture promoted by the regime. With the help of media aesthetics, Equipo Realidad strives to encourage spectators into participating and re-evaluating the Spanish culture, which is caught between imperialism and academia.
