Biography

Born in 1964 in Benalmádena (Málaga), José María Fernández Doña (professionally known as J. Doña) is a contemporary Spanish painter, sculptor, and educator based in Andalusia. 

His multifaceted practice explores the intersections of easel painting, sculpture, and mixed-media works, distinguished by rich textural experimentation, tactile materiality, and a refined balance between abstract and semi-abstract visual languages. Alongside his active studio practice, Doña has been deeply committed to arts education, serving as an professor of drawing and painting at the Centro Cultural Pablo Ruiz Picasso in Torremolinos since 1997.

Over his extensive career, he has participated in more than 150 solo and collective exhibitions across Spain and internationally, earning recognition through numerous art awards, critical selections, and inclusion in private and institutional collections.
