Biography

Jonas Brodin paints hyperrealist still lifes with formidable technical skill. Born in 1987 in Värnamo and trained at Göteborgs Konstskola, he lives and works in Gothenburg. In acrylic on canvas he depicts glass, metal, fruit and everyday objects, often detached from their usual context and placed in compositions with a strong tension between realism and surrealism. The technique is minutely controlled: light and material are captured with precision, and the subject sits at the centre, sometimes in a field of tension between function and symbol. Brodin describes his field as New American classic realism and hyperrealism, with a recurring interest in opposites. His work has been shown at Galleri Scandinavia and several other galleries. Works are signed and come with a certificate of authenticity from Galleri Scandinavia, Gothenburg, a family-run gallery established in 1972.
