Biography

Verena Loewensberg (born in 1912) was a Swiss painter and graphic designer. Loewensberg was the oldest daughter of a family of doctors in Zurich. After two years at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Basel in 1927, she became a textile weaver in Speicher, Switzerland. In 1936 she began her career as an artist and helped in 1937 with the founding of an association of modern artists in Zurich. She participated in many successful group exhibitions. Her work which focuses on lineality and color was inspired by the work of Georges Vantongerloo and Piet Mondrian. The painter passed away in 1986.
