Andrey Laponov

Andrey Laponov is an Ukrainian artist.

Works in the style of symbolism.

Having not received a formal art education, he learned to write on his own and gradually developed his own peculiar, unique author's style. Laponov created his first works in the early 90s in a realistic style. His early canvases are distinguished by a rich palette, subtle lyricism, a sense of serenity and unity with nature.

As his creative manner develops, the artist moves from realistic landscapes and still lifes to multidimensional philosophical canvases filled with symbolism. Laponov began his first search for a new, unique style back in the late 2000s. Since then, he has consistently developed his artistic language and has made a long way of experimentation both with technique and with the content of his works in relation to deepening the meaning of the image-symbol. The artist is interested in spiritual knowledge of the surrounding world, study of deep existential states and reflections, which give development to new taliacotian solutions.

For the canvases of the symbolic series, Laponov uses the author's technique with interspersed gold, borrowed from the masters of icon painting. In his works, famous sacred symbols appear surrounded by local flowers. Laponov analyzes ancient archetypal images, gives them the author's interpretation and creates his own symbolic language, into which the realities of the objective world are intricately interwoven. The semantic fabric of his works contains symbols of various beliefs. But turning to them is not a sign of unconditional acceptance of certain views, but a way of perceiving and analyzing various philosophical and ethical positions.

The artist lives and works in Odessa.

Andrey's works are in the collection of Odessa Museum of Wetern and Eastern art and in private collections around the globe.
