Nigel was brought up in West Africa and studied art in Cheltenham and London. A stay in Italy, particularly at the British school in Rome, was pivotal in his development. Nigel has taught formally and mentored individual artists for many years. He now lives and works in Devon. As an artist mentor at MakeTank, in Exeter, this offers Nigel an opportunity to grow the art profile and add cohesion to the community.
For me, art is about discovery.
I attempt to get to what lies beneath the surface, what is the essence of the memory or of a feeling ? To what it is to be alive ? To be vulnerable and strong. To what is depicted and what we construct ? in the gap between the known and the unknowable.
