Off late, artist Anke Birnie focuses on the relationship between sculpture and surroundings. As the first of her kind of artist, she positions her figures sitting on a low wall. Then she decided to adorn the walls of the house with these figures. Emotional sensations radiating from them, almost evolve from a three dimensional into a two dimensional form of art. In the end the low wall supporting the bronze figure is not deemed to be necessary at all and the sculpting solution Anke Birnie arrives at is highly innovative: hanging sculptures. In this way the three dimensional aspect has entered her contemporary works of art anew.
