Biography

Born in Austin, Texas in 1979, Emily Mae Smith is currently based in Brooklyn. She completed her MFA at Columbia University. 

Smith's humorous paintings portray a modern twist on historical art movements such as Surrealism and Symbolism. Through her work, Smith centers feminist perspectives and challenges traditional phallocentrism. 


Smith has held recent solo exhibitions at Galerie Perrotin, Paris (2021), Radolphe Janssen, Brussels (2021) and Simone Subal Gallery, New York (2020).
