Biography
Born in 1988, Awol Erizku is an Ethiopian-American artist. He received his MFA from the Yale School of Art.
Erizku is celebrated for his multimedia works which challenge Eurocentric ideals of beauty and art history by reorienting his subjects in the African tradition. Whilst his photographs have been published in several established magazines, he is most widely known for his photographs of Beyoncé, used to announce her second pregnancy.
Erizku's works can be found in the permanent collections of numerous American institutions including the Whitney Museum of American Art; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
