Elliott Erwitt (born July 26 1928 in Paris) is an American photographer.
Of Russian immigrant parents, he spent ten years of his childhood in Europe, particularly in Italy, Germany and France before his parents immigrated to the US in 1938, they lived in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles in 1941.
Robert Capa was one of the first to notice his work and encouraged him to become a member of the agency Magnum. Agency he will preside a few years later.
He photographed Europe and the United States, children, dogs and stars with satirical humor. He did as well several comedy tv shows. "Making people laugh is one of the greatest achievements you can hope for" he says.
His photographies of North Carolina, USA became a remarkable icon .
