Biography

Tanner Jackson Rhines (b. 1995) is an American visual artist from Fairbanks, Alaska who specializes in black and white cartoon works, a style referred to as Condentionism. Self defined by the artist as a psychological matrix of characters and life energies, the Condentions are meant to celebrate the viewer, and the spaces they occupy in reality.

In 2015, Tanner's work was chosen from 350,000 original entries to receive Scholastics Art and Writing's prestigious Gold Medal Portfolio Award. This award placed him in the company of previous Scholastics recipients, including Andy Warhol, Stephen King, Sylvia Plath, and Cy Twombly, among others.

In 2016, Tanner was shortlisted in the International Emerging Artist Award, hosted in Dubai, and was featured at CICA Museum in South Korea. Tanner's work has been included for two consecutive years in the Art.Write.Now. tour across the United States, in addition to having pieces displayed in Washington DC at the Department of Education, and the President's Office for the Committee on Arts and Humanities during the Obama administration.

In 2018, Rhines was named Artist of the Week by Elevision Media, a digital advertising company in Dubai. Two years later, he created a work for Alaska Airlines that was later placed on display at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Washington, USA. In 2023 and 2025, Tanner's work was exhibited at ComicCon International in San Diego, California.

Rhines has built a practice that merges the clarity of pop with philosophical intent, blending mass culture, personal mythology, and psychological symbolism. His densely composed drawings speak to patience in an impatient age. Each piece, layered with detail and repetition, resists the instant gratification that defines contemporary life. In a generation accustomed to speed and automation, his works demand time—both from the artist and the viewer—serving as meditations on attention, willpower, and endurance.

In the past, Tanner has worked in construction on the Alaska Pipeline, and holds a bachelor's degree in cloud and network engineering. He plans to exhibit his work at World Art Dubai 2026, as he continues to diversify his skill set.
