Description

"The Eyes" by Amsterdam-based Polish artist Anna Gawecka. Part of the "Geometric Wonders" series, developed for the "Abstractalizm" group exhibition at the Art'Hotel in Amsterdam.

Unique hand-tufted wall rug, sold with an easy-to-install hanging hook system.
6-colour acrylic, 100% rescued yarn.
Finished with a dark grey felt back panel and stamped.
120 x 120 cm

"Geometric Wonders" – Inspired by the interplay of shapes, this collection invites you to discover the symphony of lines, angles, and patterns found in architecture and urban landscapes. Each rug reflects the beauty of symmetry, with clean lines and balanced designs.

This statement piece won't cease to amaze and brings a fresh perspective on choosing art to hang on your wall. Tufting is the modern-day reinvention of the ancient art of tapestry, and as such, it belongs in every art lover's home wanting to stay ahead of their time. Textile as a medium adds a level of warmth and texture that can be physically felt through the touch of the yarn—its depth, density, and the sculpted shapes within it.

In our view, Anna's work stands in direct lineage with Optical and Kinetic Art, which first emerged in the Movement exhibition at Denise René's Paris gallery in 1955, and more recently celebrated at 2013 "The Dynamo" retrospective at galeries du Grand Palais. It also connects more broadly with what was later termed Perceptual Art at The Responsive Eye exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1965. It questions the notions of space, vision, and light—and we truly love it.

We hope you will too, and make these wonders yours to enjoy every day by bringing 'The Eyes' into your interior.

Presentation

Anna Gawecka is a Polish visual artist currently residing in Amsterdam.
Practising light painting since 2014, she began exploring hand-tufting alongside other fabric-based techniques in 2021 as a new path for her artistic expression. She soon found it ignited her joy and creativity, challenging her to translate the essence of her light painting into a tactile form—blending movement, shapes, and reflections of light with the rich textures of wool and thread.

Anna focuses her craft on using only rescued yarn—either from unravelled sweaters lovingly sent by her mum or surplus wool she discovers through friends, donations, or unexpected finds. This approach allows her to connect her creations more deeply with her sensitivity to nature, in every shape and form, the very source of her inspiration.
