Description
This abstract composition explores the delicate boundary between the material and the ethereal. A fluid black line dances across the center. It weaves a complex web of organic shapes. The movement is rhythmic and spontaneous. These contours suggest hidden figures or anatomical fragments without ever fully defining them.
The background glows with a soft yellow wash. This warm light creates an atmospheric depth. Subtle touches of red and blue pastel emerge from the void. They add points of chromatic tension to the muted palette. The interplay of oil and pastel lends a rich texture to the paper.
The artist relies on a self-taught language of intuition. He avoids conventional trends to pursue a conceptual reality. Every stroke reflects a search for self-knowledge. The composition balances void and presence. The eye follows the sweeping curves until they vanish into the golden haze. This 2020 artwork focuses on the elegance of a single, continuous gesture. It transforms a simple drawing into a meditative experience of color and line.
Presentation
José Antonio Fondevila (Fiestras-Silleda, Ponteveda, 1952). He was born in an environment not very conducive to the arts and has no family background in this field or social influences that would have led him down this path. He was orphaned at the age of 8 and was the oldest of 5 siblings.
Since his childhood, an inner need drove him to seek ways of self-realization. Ways that would facilitate the channeling of his goals: To question his own reality and self-knowledge; to be able to manifest himself through his own language without conditioning; to search for another reality outside of his world .....
In this search, he obtained a grant from the Ministry of Information and Tourism to take a distance learning course in oil painting. From this course, all his training is self-taught; but it is the starting point to enter gradually in the universe of the creation.
In the course of his journey, he changes his themes and styles, but without obeying any trend but his own dictates, reaching a stage where the conceptual replaces the real, seeking the line between the material and the ethereal.
