Description
From The art, culture & society series
Overall size: 30 in. H x 44 in. W
Individual size: 30 in. H x 22 in. W
This artwork presents a compelling dual portrait, juxtaposing two figures against a lush tropical backdrop. On the left, a woman with striking features dons a vibrant, orange-patterned attire, exuding elegance and introspection. Her expression is contemplative, framed by bold, expressive brushstrokes that accentuate her poised demeanor. Opposite her, a man is depicted in profile, dressed in a dark suit with a distinctive orange tie. His posture conveys a sense of authority and introspection, further enriched by the intricate detailing of his attire. The background reveals a serene garden, animated by palm trees and a tranquil gazebo, blending both portraits into a harmonious landscape. This juxtaposition not only highlights the distinct personalities of the figures but also their connection to the serene surroundings, making the piece a masterful exploration of character and setting.
Presentation
The worlds of fashion, society and pop culture are explored through the illustrations of Manuel Santelices, a Chilean artist and journalist living and working in New York for the last 20 years. After writing stories about style, design, art and politics for a number of magazines, including the Spanish editions of Elle, Harper's Bazaar and Esquire, and being fashion writer in New York for Vogue Mexico and Latin American for 7 years, Manuel decided to focus his attention to illustration, painting mostly with watercolors the same characters and events he covered as a journalist.
