Description
This fascinating work fuses art and cartography, transforming a map of the French Alpine region into a magnetic portrait. The map becomes canvas, with geographic contours redefined to create the face and its distinctive features. Boundaries and place names are woven into the very fabric of the portrait, symbolically linking territory and identity. The expressive eyes, framed by dark curls, captivate, while a vibrant pink flower adorns the hair. The artist deploys a deft play of color and line to juxtapose natural landscapes with human features. This marriage of exact cartography and artistic expression evokes a profound reflection on heritage and the universal connection between man and his environment. Unique in its creativity, the work demonstrates technical mastery and innovative artistic vision, transforming a simple map into a rich visual exploration.
Presentation
Born in the Tarn in 1968, her creations imbued with figurative scenes resonate with Fernand Léger's characters. It is this same universe that Clara Castagné stages, on school geographical or anatomical maps that cultivated our minds during childhood. Its main themes are family scenes, mythology, the human body. His figures, with a roundness reminiscent of the silhouettes of modern artists, Léger, Matisse, Picasso, take and give life to geographical maps or anatomical plates.
Clara Castagné renews the art of collage and superposition, dear to the artists of the Bauhaus or the modern movement. His work tells us a story while reminding us of our elementary school lessons.
