Description
Havana Rebelde - Idilios.
Mixed technique, burlap, papier collé, acrylic, pigment, Cuban and French newspapers.
In it, I make my two worlds, my two languages, and my two imaginaries dialogue: Cuba and France.
The background of the work is shared between the burlap and a papier collé in a spectrum of greens. On the burlap appears the word "Idilios", accompanied by a santería: a circle crossed by ritualistic graphics evoking los cuatro vientos, the four winds.
In the center, a woman appears, crowned with my imaginary characters. Their gazes occupy the space and seem to observe the world as much as they observe us. They form around her a kind of inner community, made of presences, memories, encounters, and dreams.
Her face is divided in two: one half green, the other composed of fragments of Cuban newspapers. The words "Rebelde" and "Hecho en Cuba", cut out from the Cuban press, cross her face under an ochre yellow light. The newspaper collages extend to the top of her bodice, mixing French and Spanish.
The words, the drawings, the stories, and the memories seem to enter directly into her body. She carries within her the journey, the exile, the roots, the freedom, and the rebellion.
With it, I do not seek to choose between my two belongings. I make them meet, respond to each other, and live together.
A multiple identity, two languages, two cultures, and two loves: Cuba and France.
An inner Havana, rebellious and dreamed, populated by characters who watch over her and me.

Aconcha – Singular and multidisciplinary art
French-Cuban artist born in Havana, Aconcha deploys a free and intuitive practice that crosses painting, sculpture, drawing, artist objects, travel journal, performance, and music. Inspired by the Orishas of the Yoruba pantheon, she is part of the movement of raw and singular art as well as contemporary art of the African diaspora.
Her canvases are teeming with colors and intertwined collages, populated by secret signs, such as the Deep Woman, both diurnal and nocturnal.
Through her universe, Aconcha connects the intimate and the ancestral, raw art and the sacred, inviting everyone to cross the boundary between visible and invisible and to reconnect with their own part of enchantment.
