Description
This striking artwork features a black and white study of a pregnant woman, captured in an ink sketch style. Her confident posture, one hand placed on her hip, the other subtly holding a drape, conveys a sense of serene power. The flowing lines and delicate hatching create a sense of depth and movement, while highlighting the roundness of her belly and the graceful curve of her legs. The contrast between light and shadow is skillfully used to accentuate anatomical details and add a sculptural dimension to the composition. This illustration symbolizes the strength and beauty of motherhood, inviting the viewer to contemplate the duality of vulnerability and resilience. The work is distinguished by its boldness and simplicity, evoking raw and authentic emotion.
Presentation
Born in Bourges, the young woman became interested in painting very quickly.
After studying art history, she became a student of the painter Philippe Lejeune in Étampes in 1983.
His first solo exhibition in 1987 led to many others, just as the Prix Brizard from the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1988 was the first in a brilliant series (Taylor Foundation, Salon des artistes français, etc.).
In 1990, Nathalie Gobin won a two-year scholarship at Villa Velasquez in Madrid. She committed suicide in the Spanish capital in 1992, aged only 27.
She left behind nearly 300 oils, 400 drawings, sketches and engravings.
For three decades, her parents kept her work intact in their home. It was only very recently, after their deaths, that Nathalie's brother and sister decided to present her work to the public.
Bourges then dedicated an exhibition to her in 2024, which preceded an auction. In one day, the 280 paintings by Nathalie Gobin, who had never been listed, sold for between €500 and €7,000.
Today, of the 400 drawings listed, 27 are entrusted to My Gallery.
They depict portraits and studio scenes, in watercolor, charcoal, pencil or ink.
