Description
In this striking artwork, a stark juxtaposition of color and monochrome draws the viewer's attention. On the left, a vibrant figure is depicted with bold green hair and a bright red jacket, standing out vividly against the minimalist, white background. The figure's expression is serene yet enigmatic, hinting at a story untold. To the right, a monochrome sketch of an open door adds a layer of mystery. The door, slightly ajar, reveals a dimly lit, ambiguous interior, inviting questions about what lies beyond. This contrast between the colorful figure and the muted scene creates a dynamic tension. The use of negative space enhances the composition's overall impact, focusing attention on the interaction between the figure and the doorway. The artwork eloquently explores themes of transition, mystery, and duality, engaging viewers to ponder the narrative connecting these distinct elements.
Presentation
Sa Hara is a Korean artist born in 1975 who lives and works in Seoul, South Korea. She is graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration at Dongguk University. Through Physical Theatre, the artist explores how characters reflect one another, expressing freedom and imagination through bodily performance. With a keen interest in the movement of the human body, observations are transformed into unique works that convey the unrestricted freedom of the mind. Each work contains a narrative, featuring characters and networks of relationships. These relationships are not confined by social or legal structures but instead reflect a worldview of relative freedom. Using the non-verbal language of bodily movement, the characters perform as if on stage, reflecting each other, becoming aspects of one another, and giving rise to thoughts and actions, thus existing through each other and forming the whole. The artist draws inspiration from human movement, real-life stories of relationships, fictional novels, and videos on Instagram and YouTube. Plants, books, music, dance, and various forms of art also provide intellectual stimuli, which are combined with imagination to create the works.
