Opposite (from In hands series), 2025

Kateryna Kostyk

“Opposite" is an original charcoal drawing exploring the quiet dialogue between time and tenderness.

At the center of the artwork is a woman's hand — aged, wrinkled, and marked by life. It carries the weight of years, work, and lived experience.

Resting in that same hand is a lily of the valley — a symbol of spring, youth, purity, and renewal. Fragile and light, it represents freshness and the beginning of something new.
This artwork is built on contrast: age and youth, strength and delicacy, memory and hope. These opposing elements do not compete — they exist in harmony. The flower belongs in the hand, just as youth belongs in the soul, regardless of time.

“Opposite" reflects the idea that true youth is internal. Time may shape the body, but it cannot take away the ability to feel, to love beauty, and to bloom from within. This drawing speaks to those who understand that growth and softness can coexist, and that life's depth is found in contrast.

A meaningful artwork for collectors who value symbolism, emotional depth, and timeless themes.

"Opposite" belongs to the series “In Hands", which includes artworks of different sizes and formats, all united by one central idea — the hand. Each piece in the series tells its own unique story and conveys a different emotion. Though they are connected by this common element, every artwork remains deeply individual, reflecting distinct moods and meanings.
