Description
The black line imposes itself with precision on the light support. This graphic composition captures a moment of summer relaxation on the coast. Three female silhouettes animate the scene in a suspended balance.
One woman rests in the foreground, lying on the sand. Beside her, another figure stands, emerging from the waters with a light gesture. In the background, a third silhouette seems to float, hands raised towards the sky.
The artist uses rigorous hatching to define the volumes and textures. The sky and the sea merge in a constant linear rhythm. A pale sun looms over the horizon, bringing a diffuse light to the whole.
The style relies on mastered figurative classicism. The stripping of colors reinforces the timeless aspect of this composition. The rendering prioritizes the clarity of the contour and the accuracy of the proportions.
Presentation
Thomas Groslier was born in Amiens in 1957.
In 1976, he entered the Beaux-Arts of Valence.
During his training years, he was interested in the works of Delvaux, Gromaire, Balthus, De Chirico, Van Gogh and Fragonard.
Starting in 1983, he develops a figurative work drawing from classicism. His subjects are multiple: portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and genre scenes.
His painting is characterized by a smooth and precise execution, as well as a generally restricted palette, dominated by blues, grays, and greens.
The artist favors small formats, more intimate ones, and develops different techniques. He works mainly with oil and tempera, on canvas, wood or cardboard, supports most often prepared by himself.
Since 1983, his work has been exhibited in different venues, galleries, and museums.
