Bronze Sculpture for Sale
Trained at the Fine Arts school in Valence, Thomas Groslier, born in 1957, is a contemporary painter associated with Figuration Libre, a movement that advocates free, spontaneous and personal painting.
However, it differs radically from comics in that it is not influenced by them.
His work is rooted in a demanding pictorial tradition, where emotion and intuition take precedence over codes and systems. His career testifies to a constant quest for authenticity and a practice resolutely focused on the essential.

For him, painting is about doing what you want, as personally as possible, without worrying about pleasing others or proving anything. It's about having fun, staying relaxed, and letting the image emerge, without filter or calculation.
His subjects are varied and unpredictable: portraits, bathers, landscapes, still lifes, decorative settings, or genre scenes. Anything can spark his imagination: a figure glimpsed in the street, a garden, a forgotten old canvas, a stroll through Paris. Nothing is premeditated. Ideas simply arrive, and the artist seizes them on the fly. No logic, no system—just the moment when the image imposes itself, without explanation or permission.
The artist favors small, more intimate, and more direct formats. He works primarily in oil or tempera—a sophisticated technique steeped in history, which he sometimes blends with oil. Tempera, with its precision and luminosity, allows for even application of layers, resulting in a smooth and understated finish, free from gestural exaggeration. The supports (canvas, wood, cardboard) are most often prepared by the artist himself, reinforcing the physical connection with the artwork.
His limited and cool palette (blues, greys, greens) accentuates the enigmatic and dreamlike nature of his compositions. The image must be immediately legible, almost neutral, to leave ample room for interpretation and emotion.
With Thomas Groslier, there are no displays of virtuosity, no "I know how to do it better than everyone else." Just free, spontaneous painting, where each canvas is a response to an inner impulse, an image springing from the unconscious or inspired by everyday life. A body of work that invites us to see the world with curiosity, lightness, and depth.
