Verrocchia succeeds in surprising, creating with "extreme freedom within extreme rigor" metal sculptures. “For me, metal has the same geological wealth as gold or diamonds. You have to know how to treat it, handle it with the same respect, the same tenderness ”. Bring it to its limits without ever mistreating it, with as much softness and firmness as the body would require, to soften it, to lengthen it, to stretch it, to shape it, to give it shape. “There are two inseparable and essential elements in Verrocchia's work: Color and Mediterranean. Twenty years of pictorial research and the reminiscences of an Italian childhood result in a vibrant polychromy; the very essence of his works, which he sees as both a jeweler and a metal practitioner. The metal abandons itself in contact with his hands and discovers sensuality and softness, it finds nobility and becomes fabric and lace. His horses are free, they soar and dance without the slightest hindrance, in this fragile relationship between balance and imbalance which is the very essence of creation. “The creative act is an act which distances man from the machine, from the reducing mechanic which confines us to the role of simple performers. Presentation
Loreto Verrocchia was born in Pescina (province of Aquila in the Abruzzes region of Italy) in 1957. He lives and works in France, where he first arrived at the age of 6. He studied visual arts in Paris and then turned to painting at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Montparnasse. In 1985, he left Paris for Provence and started his never-ending experimentation with materials and volumes.
In 1993, Loreto Verrocchia created his first monumental metal sculpture for the Féria de Béziers: a unicorn. He intended it to be a “tribute to women, beauty and purity”, a constantly recurring theme in his work. In 1996, he sculpted a Pegasus and three unicorns for private collections in France.
More than twenty years of pictorial research and work with metals have made Loreto Verrocchia a real jeweler of sculpture, known in equestrian circles for the refinement and beauty of his work. His horses seem to be alive and ready to jump. His style gives grace and lightness to the animal, and his colors exude poetry and softness.
