Description
Mare Nostrum is the first engraving in an artist's book of the same name. Made in etching, this work immerses the viewer in a dreamlike and mysterious universe, evoking an underwater landscape or a fantastical garden. The rich texture and striking contrasts created by etching techniques bring to life a scene of great visual complexity.
In the foreground, lush and varied vegetation unfolds, with organic shapes and intriguing plant structures. We can see plants with rolled leaves and structures similar to corals or sea anemones, which add an almost aquatic dimension to the composition.
In the background, mountainous shapes seem to emerge from the mist, creating depth and an enigmatic atmosphere. The composition is dominated by plays of light and shadow, which reinforce the impression of mystery and wonder.
Mare Nostrum printmaking invites careful visual exploration, with each detail revealing new textures and shapes, contributing to a work that is both immersive and captivating.
Presentation
Julie Ruelle is a French artist who lives between Creuse and Herault.
With a degree in philosophy and literature, she successively became an engineer, a teacher of French and later of philosophy. She enrolled in the Heddle and Tapestry Arts training in Aubusson in 2016 with the aim of becoming a weaver artist.
Julie Ruelle's work consists of paintings, tapestries, engravings and books. She tells stories of the sea and plant life. The works respond to each other and work together to give substance to a love story whose narrative thread is that of sorrow.
