Description
This artwork 'Island Tempo" vividly captures the serene essence of a windswept landscape, dominated by a solitary Arbutus tree positioned prominently in the foreground. The tree, with its vibrant, gnarled trunk and a sparse canopy of leaves, stands resilient against the tranquil backdrop of a shimmering ocean. The distant mountains softly fade into the horizon, their muted tones balancing the composition. A juxtaposition of textures is evident, where the roughness of the tree bark contrasts with the smooth, wispy sky. The artist employs a delicate play of light, infusing the scene with a gentle, almost ethereal glow, evoking tranquility and endurance. This piece uniquely combines realism with a touch of impressionism, inviting contemplation of nature's persistent beauty and the passage of time. This body of work is part of Lori Bagneres's 'Living On The Edge" series and seeks to expose the stark often overlooked beauty of trees that inhabit the threshold between land and ocean. Edges, by nature, are paradoxical - they offer both risk and revelation. To live on the edge is to witness life stripped down to its essentials, to understand both the fragility and strength of what endures. This landscape invites us to wander, to pause, and to reflect on our own place within nature's evolving story.
Presentation
Lori Bagnérès, a visual artist born in Ontario, and living in North Vancouver, completed her MFA in contemporary art from L'école Nationale des Beaux Arts de Grenoble in 1993. She currently pursues multiple creative interests as an artist/educator in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland and shows her work in public and private galleries in B.C. and Ontario. Her paintings are held in corporate and private collections throughout Canada, the US, Europe and Australia.
