Description

This work condenses Kang Minseok's sustained exploration of the pressure of time and the sensation of speed. The intense lines radiating from a central axis are not merely traces of movement, but manifestations of a temporal rupture branching out from a single point. The red forms cutting across the surface appear as distorted afterimages of automobiles—another portrait of the self accelerating toward the future.

The explosive expansion of color across the dark vertical axis suggests that time is not a linear flow, but a field of collision and perpetual expansion. The interplay of green, white, and red generates a heightened velocity that visualizes a psychological state approaching near-light speed. This is not a depiction of a race in the literal sense, but an inner race where anxiety, desire, self-discipline, and aspiration intersect.

For Kang Minseok, the automobile is not an external object but a surrogate for the self. The distorted body and sharply extended trajectories reveal both fragmentation and expansion of identity, transforming speed into an inward pressure rather than a competition with others. The act of pushing and scraping acrylic paint becomes a physical record of attempting to seize fleeting moments, leaving layered traces of overlapping temporalities on the canvas.

This painting does not represent a frozen scene; it is a cross-section of time where past afterimages and future possibilities coexist. The eruptive chromatic energy and tense linear structure embody Kang Minseok's artistic identity—an insistence on forward momentum and a persistent will to break through self-imposed limits.

Presentation

MINSEOK is a contemporary painter based in Busan, South Korea. His recent work investigates time, speed, and inner tension through distorted car imagery, reflecting the psychological pressure and continuous acceleration of contemporary life.

His paintings depict forms in a state of collision, compression, and expansion, suggesting forces that accumulate beneath the surface rather than erupting in a single moment. Movement is treated not as direction, but as intensity—an ongoing condition shaped by pressure, desire, and emotional weight.

Through fragmented motion and layered spatial structures, MINSEOK explores the experience of temporal disruption. Past, present, and future overlap within the same pictorial field, creating a suspended sense of time where orientation becomes unstable and perception shifts.

By destabilizing compositional balance and reversing visual boundaries, his work turns inward to question fixed viewpoints, identities, and limits. These paintings resist resolution, functioning instead as traces of a sustained inner journey.

Across his practice, MINSEOK transforms movement into a psychological landscape, inviting viewers to reflect on their own sense of rhythm, direction, and self within an ever-accelerating world.
