Description
This captivating artwork pulsates with raw energy and unfiltered emotion, exuding a compelling aura that demands the viewer's attention. The piece is an abstract, visceral portrayal that straddles the line between minimalism and uninhibited expressionism. A face, or perhaps just a suggestion of one, emerges from the chaotic interplay of broad, sweeping strokes and sharp, deliberate lines. The use of color is sparse yet striking, with bold blacks and reds dominating the canvas, interspersed with sporadic slashes of white and grey. These choices imbue the artwork with a sense of primitive intensity and profound depth. The artist's strokes are unapologetically confident, each mark seemingly made in a moment of expressive fervor, suggesting an emotive release. Unique to this piece is the juxtaposition of order and chaos. The circular lines and overlapping streaks create an almost hypnotic focal point, a disembodied face that is enigmatic yet eerily familiar. The eyes are mere horizontal strokes, obscured, imparting a sense of mystery and introspection. The texture of the brushstrokes is palpable, giving the piece a dynamic, almost tactile quality. The simplicity of the palette, coupled with the complexity of the composition, speaks to a mastery of minimalist abstraction. This artwork does not just invite viewing; it commands contemplation, urging the observer to delve into the undercurrents of human emotion and identity that permeate its every stroke. Bold, unrestrained, and deeply evocative, this piece is a testament to the power of abstract art to transcend the bounds of conventional representation and to communicate on a profoundly visceral level.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
