Description
This artwork exudes a mesmerizing simplicity cloaked in profound depth. At its core, a near-perfect circle dominates the visual field, rendered with a subtle gradient that transitions seamlessly from a nebulous, almost ethereal illumination at its center to a darker, shadowed periphery. The circle is not sharply defined; its edges blur into the surrounding canvas, suggesting a transient, almost celestial phenomenon — reminiscent of a lunar eclipse or a misty, atmospheric apparition. The background, a blend of dark, moody shades, provides a stark contrast to the delicate balance of light and dark within the circle. The interplay of light and shadow is masterfully executed, drawing the viewer’s eye towards the center but also encouraging exploration of the surrounding, darker areas that frame the composition. The artist employs a restrained palette, enhancing the piece’s enigmatic and contemplative quality. The use of texture is minimal yet effective, adding a tactile dimension to the smooth gradient transitions. This minimalistic approach does not diminish the artwork's impact; rather, it amplifies the sense of mystery and evokes a multitude of interpretations. Every element of this piece is intentional, from the almost otherworldly glow within the circle to the void-like expansiveness of its surroundings. It invites an introspective journey, urging the observer to ponder the interplay of light and darkness, presence and absence, form and formlessness. This hypnotic and evocative piece is a testament to the power of minimalist design, drawing the viewer into an intimate yet infinite exploration of space and light.
Presentation
My name is Michael R. Grine and I am an process oriented artist. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas.
Statement
Curiosity. Emotion. Experimentation. Exploration. Leap of faith. Pursuit of knowledge. These words only begin to describe what my art signifies or represents. I was born an artist and have always identified myself as an artist. I possess an insatiable creative drive to make art out of the images I see in my mind. To help satisfy this impulse, I am always exploring new places and trying new things. Having freedom of expression and not being limited to one style or technique of making art are paramount to my identity as an artist. I love the many different processes of making art and experimenting with new ways of creating art.
My inspiration stems from color, music, literature, and the excitement about the unknown possibilities of taking everyday objects and using them in a way that differs from what the manufacturer intended. I use a combination of found objects, acrylic paints, and aerosol paints to create abstract patterns on wood and canvas. Some of my methods include combining different chemicals and paint on paper or in plastic or wood box frames to distort vivid colors that are mixed or thrown right on the canvas. The result is the distortion of lines and contours, and layers of translucent or opaque paints on the canvas or in random patterns.
