Description
View of the harbour of Lamu, a small sand island with mangrove bays in the Indian Ocean in the northern part of Kenya. The island is dominated by Arab traders, the Islamic religion and culture is predominant. Economically, the island lived from the slave trade until the beginning of the 20th century. Today the island is car-free, many transports are done by donkeys. Unfortunately, it is not entirely safe for tourists, as the influence of terrorist gangs from northern Somalia is noticeable.
Presentation
Samuel Njuguna Njoroge was born in Kiambu (Kenya) and joined Banana Hill Art Studio in 2004. Here he interacted with other artists including, Jeff Wambugu, Sebastian Kiarie, Joseph Cartoon and Shine Tani among others. Since then, he has participated in numerous art workshops and exhibitions, at home and beyond. He has used his art for charity with organizations such as Food For Thought Africa, Harambee Arts. He is mostly inspired by African beauty especially land and seascapes, culture and its people. His love for experiments in creation has made him work more with mixed mediums, to create spontaneous color hues, resulting to elegant looks of lively, coloristic and at times amusing works of art.
"Painting is my language of expressing my appreciation, to life and nature and though silent, it authentically simplifies, reconstructs or reinvents more personalized statements about our world."
