Description
In the work entitled Leave me alone, micro- and macrocosm are revealed through chiaroscuro passages that bring to mind the cosmic Big Bang, where everything began and where it will presumably see its end. The female figure is placed from behind and, contrary to the title, appears to be catapulted off a planet, so she may represent the unwanted isolation given by altered psychic states.
Presentation
Gaka Mira is the stage name of Dominiek De Meulemeester, an artist born in 1970 in Belgium where he lives and works. His first solo exhibition was in 1996 at the Theatre PC Sint-Amandus in Belgium. Others also followed in Spain, Italy and France.
Reframing the human condition is the overal theme in his work. He is liberating people from the identity given by their social context. Poor or rich, homeless, refugees, businessmen,… isolated from the original context they regain humanity in it's purest form, immersed in a cosmic world.
