Francisco Muñoz Tejeida

Francisco Muñoz Tejeida is an artist born in Mexico City, whose education at the National School of Plastic Arts (ENAP) of UNAM, formerly known as the Academy of San Carlos, laid the foundation for his extensive career as a painter and printmaker. His trajectory is marked by a deep dedication to graphic artistic production at the Taller de Gráfica Popular (TGP), where he worked for many years and developed a unique and distinctive style.

Influences and Style

Muñoz Tejeida is a worthy representative of modern Mexican art, characterized by a vibrant and textured style that integrates influences from pre-Hispanic cultures. His work is filled with folkloric symbolism, following the legacy of great Mexican artists. The influence of masters such as Rufino Tamayo and Rodolfo Nieto, as well as colorists like Henri Matisse and draftsmen like Pablo Picasso and Egon Schiele, is evident in his work, creating a language that, while primitive, is full of indigenous expression and a deep connection to his cultural roots.

Commitment and Experimentation

From the beginning, Muñoz Tejeida has shown an unwavering commitment to the modern vision of art, striving to develop an artistic expression that reflects the cultural richness of Mexico. His painting, printmaking, and sculpture aim to capture the smells, flavors, textures, lines, shapes, and colors of an ancestral culture that refuses to disappear. This commitment is manifested in his experimental work, which combines abstract and expressionist elements without adhering to homogeneous styles, always maintaining a unique and personal identity.

Exhibitions and Recognitions

Throughout his career, Francisco Muñoz Tejeida has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in the United States, Europe, Australia, Central America, and especially Mexico, gaining recognition for his ability to create universal images with the color and texture of a culturally rich homeland. His work can attract, impress, and unsettle diverse audiences, standing out for its expressive strength and its ability to generate significant cultural impact.

Technique and Creative Process

Muñoz Tejeida's work is distinguished by his technical experimentation, especially in the field of printmaking, a discipline he learned at the TGP under the guidance of masters such as José Álvarez Amaya, Alfredo Méreles, and Luis Garzón. His creative process is monolithic and totemic, seeking balance and constant vibration in his compositions, whether on canvases or plates. The choice of colors and textures, as well as the organization of themes in series, reflects a deep understanding of artistic language and a controlled emotional connection that brings life and passion to his work.
