Description
Abstract intuitive square vignettes with scenes of awakening from a dream- dreamscape is expressed in this artwork. A small multi-layered painting with grids of imaginary moody, dreamy inner-mind images. The artist dreams in color and this multi blue, aqua, orange, black and gold original geometric painting represents it creatively. The mood changes as the art is rotated. Light blue wash on the gallery-wrapped sides and wired on the back make this artwork ready to hang to enjoy.
Presentation
Artist Statement:
Twyla Gettert's art studies began with classical portrait and figurative painting and gradually turned to abstract and non-objective abstract. This led her to create large-scale paintings, some up to twelve feet works for corporate clients. Her work has been placed in more than 60 corporations and she has been a full-time artist for over 20 years. with award-winning art.
Her work is a spontaneous intuitive flow that she transforms through the brushwork. Twyla's love of color is expressed in every painting.
Wanting to re-examine her work and turn in different directions to enhance her creativity, she began in 1999, the study of Sumi, Chinese brush painting, and Chinese calligraphy and also, Printmaking with Andrew Balkin Print Editions in Madison, WI.
This furthered a realization of the spontaneous 'chi' in her mark making. Drawing on her love of creating monotypes on an etching press, she continued to press the boundaries. She is creating both paintings and monotype prints.
The monotype series explores color and intuitive direct brush and color application of oil etching inks to a mirrored copper plate which is then placed on a etching press. The inks transfer onto fine art paper as it is embossing the paper and also reverses the image in the printing process. The plate can run through the press many more times as more layers of color are applied and printed on the same paper. The ink on the plate is then removed. Each completed monotype is one of a kind.
Twyla is inspired by the Abstract Expressionists, By sharing her personal vision and emotion in painting, she hopes to draw viewers closer to their own inner worlds.
