Au bord de la piscine, 2024

Marine Walon

This work by Marine Walon immerses us in the aquatic and contemplative world of swimming. Entitled "Au bord de la piscine", it depicts a woman in a blue swimsuit, sitting at the water's edge. Her graceful body is shown from behind, adding a certain mystery and intimacy to the scene. The dominant colors of the painting are shades of blue and green, creating a harmonious and refreshing balance. The textured brushstrokes in the background of the image evoke bursts of light on the water, embellishing the backdrop with a mosaic of emerald and turquoise. This modernized pointillism technique enriches the aesthetics of the work, suggesting the shimmering surface of the pool or perhaps the surrounding foliage, contributing to a striking visual effect. The play of light and shadow on the swimmer's smooth, dark skin is meticulously executed, accentuating the subtle musculature and natural elegance of her body. The swimmer’s relaxed pose, with one arm delicately placed on her knee, indicates a moment of rest or reflection, inviting us to share in this moment of tranquility. The apparent simplicity of the composition contrasts beautifully with the richness of detail and nuance, displaying the artist’s superb technical mastery. This juxtaposition of simplicity and complexity captures the essence of artistic praxis: transforming the mundane into a scene of profound and serene beauty. In short, this work is a celebration of the beauty of the human body, the tranquility of water, and the art of capturing fleeting moments on canvas. It speaks to the heart as much as it does to the mind, leaving us in awe of the perfect symbiosis of color adjustment, luminosity, and delicacy of form.
