Description
This artwork reveals a vibrant and intense emotion through a captivating abstract composition. It seems to capture a dreamlike landscape, where nature frees itself from traditional forms to enter an expressive and emotional dimension. The play of colors is bold and energetic: palettes of deep and soothing greens mix with bright touches of yellow and purple, creating a dynamic contrast that immediately catches the eye. The shades of green dominate the scene, suggesting a dense forest, while the bursts of yellow bring a bright light, perhaps evoking a sunrise or sunset piercing the foliage. The use of textures and brushstrokes is marked by a controlled spontaneity. The layers of paint, superimposed and intertwined, add a fascinating depth and density to the work. There are elements of fluidity and movement in the strokes, giving the illusion of quivering branches, evanescent mists or wind currents weaving through the landscape. There is also a mysterious dimension to this painting. The darker areas and the dark color gradients suggest unexplored corners, adding a layer of mystery and invitation to adventure. The eye is irremediably drawn to the center of the work, where a milky clarity is revealed, potentially a passage to elsewhere, another reality or an introspection. In short, this work is a masterful celebration of nature and the abstract, inviting us to dive into a world both familiar and unknown, where each brushstroke tells a story and each shade of color awakens an emotion.
Presentation
Sharon Grimes, from Texas, is a self-taught contemporary abstract artist whose art is a personal expression of life, with all its textures and layers. Inspired by nature and the universe, her work typically features vivid colors and vibrant energy and is consistently characterized by strong composition, contrast and texture, which demonstrate her remarkable understanding of color and composition.
Sharon first became interested in art at a young age. She grew up loving to sketch people, animals and her surroundings. In her early twenties, her passion for art blossomed as she was inspired by the many galleries and museums she frequented in London while living abroad for a year.
Sharon was a 2014 Hunting Art Prize finalist. Her work has been described by Sara Eyestone, artist, writer and curator of La Posada de Santa Fe and Spa, as a “feast for the eyes".
Sharon's paintings have been exhibited in group exhibitions, including RW Norton Gallery Group Show in Shreveport, LA and the Kilgore Art Festival in Kilgore, Texas. Her most recent show was in Miami, Florida at Red Dot and her solo show was with Arcadia in Tyler, Texas.
