Double (Je), 2011

Sylvie Bruneau

This artwork is distinguished by its bold character and textural complexity. Composed of two vertical panels, it adopts an abstract approach that manifests itself in an interweaving of vigorous brushstrokes and earthy hues. The artist used a palette dominated by browns, ochres and whites, with occasional touches of blue and grey, adding depth and richness to the composition. The layers of colour seem to both blend and overlap, creating a sense of constant movement and transformation. The thick texture of the paint reveals a dynamic technique, where the material seems to almost spring from the surface, bringing a tactile dimension to the work. The diptych arrangement invites the viewer to explore each panel individually while appreciating the homogeneity of the whole. The contrasts between dark and light areas reinforce the impression of relief and density, conjuring an atmosphere that is both chaotic and harmonious. What makes this work particularly captivating is the way it evokes varied emotions and visions depending on the angle of view and the ambient light. Each observation can reveal unsuspected nuances and details, making the interaction with this creation inexhaustible and fascinating. In short, this painting is a masterful celebration of abstraction, marrying emotional intensity and visual complexity, intended to captivate the eye and mind of the viewer.
