Summer dream, 2024

Yehor Dulin

This vibrant and dynamic still-life artwork captures a basket of apples in a distinctly impressionistic style, characterized by loose brushwork and a lively color palette. The artist deftly utilizes thick, visible brushstrokes to convey texture and depth, immersing the viewer into a tactile and sensory experience.

The focal point of the composition is a woven basket brimming with apples, ranging in hues from vibrant green to rosy red, indicating a variety of ripeness. The placement of apples both scattered around the basket and inside it creates a sense of natural abundance and a moment frozen in time. The background, executed in muted tones of blue and gray, serves as a subtle contrast, allowing the vivid colors of the apples to pop and demand attention.

There is an assertive energy in the brushstrokes, with the artist employing impasto techniques that give the work a three-dimensional quality. This method enhances the realism of the apples' surfaces, capturing the interplay of light and shadow in a way that suggests weight and volume. The use of light creates highlights on the apples, adding to the sense of freshness and immediacy.

This piece of art is not just a static still-life, but an engaging study of color, texture, and form. The seemingly random yet deliberate placement of the apples invokes a sense of spontaneity and life, distancing itself from more traditional, orderly still-lifes. It invites the viewer to not just see, but feel the juiciness and the roundness of the apples, as if they could reach out and grasp one.

In summary, this painting masterfully combines impressionistic techniques with a rich, lively palette to create a still-life that is both visually captivating and full of vibrant energy. The unique aspects of varied apple sizes, their scattered arrangement, and the robust brushwork make this piece a compelling and dynamic exploration of everyday subjects.
