La mère - Scène de vie familiale africaine, 2020

Céline Raphaël-Leygues

This artwork depicts a touching and vibrant family scene under a bright sky. At the center of the composition, a mother figure, dressed in a flamboyant red dress, leans tenderly towards two children. This caring mother also carries a child on her back, testifying to the richness of cultural traditions and family devotion. The children, one dressed in a blue striped dress and the other in a pink dress, stand side by side, reflecting innocence and brotherly complicity. The faces are stylized, giving the work a universality, suggesting that this moment could belong to any family. The background reveals a green landscape, with a blue sky softened by the golden light of the sun. The lush tree on the left introduces a natural and serene dimension, harmoniously framing the scene. This painting is distinguished by its dynamic use of colors, contrasting the intense red of the dress with the calming green of the surroundings. The dark silhouettes of the protagonists provide additional depth, accentuating the emotional connection between the characters. The painterly style, with its expressive brushstrokes, gives the painting a palpable vitality and energy, capturing the beauty and simplicity of moments shared with family.
