Description

This captivating artwork features an exceptionally realistic trompe-l'oeil effect, where every element appears tangible. In the center, a bundle of old books is carefully tied with beige string, wrapped in worn brown paper, exuding an aura of mystery and history. At the top, a spool of string rests calmly, evoking secret narratives. A glass vial containing a clear liquid sits to the right, exquisitely labeled. A piece of paper is attached to the wooden board, displaying ancient inscriptions. The dark green frame beautifully frames the scene, adding intriguing depth. The three-dimensional illusion is captivating, each detail painted with meticulous precision, paying homage to the artist's technical skill and inviting the viewer to prolonged contemplation.

Jacques Resch, Le Colis

Jacques Resch

France  • 1946

Presentation

French designer and painter, Jacques Resch was born in Montpellier on February 26, 1946.

Self-taught, he draws from his first year of kindergarten; then he began practically alone in the plastic arts. From the age of 12 he painted his first paintings.

His first subjects treated already make travel in his imagination: still life, landscape, character. We will notice "Self-portrait" from 1968; he wants to remain self-taught. With his "Juliette" from 1968 he studies colors and explores mediums.

His attention to detail is revealed with his "Still life letter and candle holder" in 1970; in 1971 he did not hesitate to transpose the details of a painting by Brueghel into his own world.

His taste for the fantastic and the dreamlike and surreal universe that he appreciates in J. Bosch or Dalí will now fill all his paintings.

In 1974 he exhibited for the first time in his hometown Montpellier.

He will return there to exhibit alone at the Municipal Theater in 1979 and then in 1981 at the Salon de la Ville; in 1982 he was exhibited for 6 months at the Fabre Museum and in 1983 and 1984 at the Salon des Arts et des Lettres.

Multiple collective or individual exhibitions will mark out his career as a surrealist, hyperrealist painter outside his birthplace, including: Annecy 1988 and 1993, Colombes 1981, Créteil 1985, Le Noyer 1981… Monte Carlo 1988 and 1989, Prix Internationnal Paris: Salon d'Automne since 1981, Salon des Indépendants 1987 and 1988. Exhibition "Picture your imagination" in 1990 and Exhibition "De Lutèce à la Grande Arche" in 1991; during the years 90-2000 the numerous retrospectives and exhibitions of his works in the town halls of the arrondissement of Paris or his presence for 10 years in the Parisian gallery Michelle Boulet dedicated to contemporary masters of the imagination have even more largely contributed to his notoriety.

We could see his painting on display in the Hérault in the neighboring towns of Montpellier: Pézenas, Béziers, Castries, Vendargues, Mauguio, Jacou, Le Crès where, since the death of his parents in 2008, part of his work.

Since 1971, he has led his career as a professor of physics and chemistry through Mali, Niger, Ivory Coast and finally in Burkina Faso where he is currently resident.

We can see in his most recent paintings his concern for what is happening to our world today.
