"In Field" by renowned Ukrainian artist Viktor Konotopsky, created in the spirit of Kazimir Malevich, reinterprets the iconic Suprematist and Neo-Primitive approach with a vibrant Ukrainian soul. In this striking composition, three peasant women are depicted harvesting wheat under a richly colored sky. The central figure stands upright and stoic, holding a sickle — her gaze firm and timeless, embodying dignity, strength, and the continuity of rural life. Flanking her, the other women are bent over their work, merging almost rhythmically with the golden field. Konotopsky uses simplified, geometric forms and bold colors to pay homage to Malevich's vision of the peasant as a monumental, almost spiritual symbol of the land. The figures are stylized yet monumental, their postures echoing centuries of tradition and hard labor. Through this painting, Konotopsky explores themes of identity, endurance, and the sacred connection between humanity and earth — celebrating not only the landscape but the people who shape it with their hands. It's a tribute to the quiet heroism of Ukrainian women and the unbroken cycle of agricultural life.
Presentation
Viktor Konotopsky was born in 1967 in the village of Maleshkovka, Nedrigailovsky district, Sumy region.
Graduated from the Kharkiv State Art School and the Faculty of Arts of the Saratov State Pedagogical University named after Makarenko.
Worked as a drawing and drafting teacher, and an artist in the advertising field.
In the 90s, he lived and worked in Poland (Krakow and Szczecin) and St. Petersburg.
Viktor had many temptations to catch some fashionable artistic disease, but he remained himself.
Judging his painting by the standards of world artistic fashion is as absurd as declaring love with the memorized words of a popular literary hero. In this sense, it is naive, but the naivety of a professionally educated person. His paintings are realistic, although stylized. The landscapes are easily recognizable, but they contain a generalization leading to an image.
