Spring Vibes 2, 2025

Inga Makarova

In Spring Vibes 2, Inga Makarova continues her bold and beautifully ironic exploration of fertility, desire, and societal taboos. At first glance, the painting evokes a serene sense of botanical harmony: pale pink blossoms adorn a gnarled branch, blooming gently against a soft blue sky-like background. But as with the other works in the series, the calm is interrupted by a single subversive object – a condom filled with liquid, hanging quietly from one of the branches. Rendered with the same level of painterly attention as the flowers, this object becomes both a visual counterpoint and a conceptual focal point.

Makarova's talent lies in balancing the poetic with the provocative. Here, the filled condom evokes layers of meaning: it's a vessel of potentiality, a symbol of restrained passion, a nod to the artificiality of modern reproduction, and a playful critique of spring's stereotypical innocence. There is nothing vulgar or confrontational in the execution; rather, it's a deeply ironic gesture, wrapped in classical still life composition and the visual language of romantic tradition.

Perfect for collectors of feminist art, conceptual painting, and bold contemporary still lifes, Spring Vibes 2 continues Makarova's exploration of the dualities of human intimacy with elegance, wit, and emotional resonance.
