Description
In this elegant painting, I explore a dialogue between abstraction, music, and timeless style. At the heart of the composition stands a large white grand piano, painted with soft pearlescent tones that subtly shift with the light, giving the surface a vintage yet luminous presence. The musical notes visible in the upper left corner are not random — they are taken directly from Debussy's Claire de Lune, grounding the work in both emotional resonance and classical heritage. A champagne glass rests gently on the piano, evoking a sense of celebration and quiet intimacy.
Dripping textures of white, black, and beige paint flow across the canvas, merging pop art influences with expressionism. A black-and-white chessboard pattern adds contrast and rhythm, echoing the structured yet free nature of music. The brushwork is intentionally raw, embracing imperfections and movement. A subtle phrase — like a whispered memory — is embedded in the texture, inviting the viewer to listen beyond the visual. This is not just a painting; it's a visual sonata — abstract, elegant, and deeply atmospheric.
Presentation
Kristina Mallen, a painter with a background in oil and acrylic mediums.
Her recognisable style infuses the sophistication of Art Deco, the pop of Pop Art with a dominant focus on the female figure, manifesting elegance and eroticism. Her work exudes the extravagance, classical chic, and charm of women, striking a balance between provocation and the sublime.
