Description
Litv 1121
In "Self-portrait in front of the ruins", the Ukrainian artist Daniil Litvinov creates a fantastical and ironic vision of the artist's identity amid the remnants of civilization. Clad in ornate, almost theatrical attire, with a monocle and an elaborate headdress, the figure gazes at the viewer with self-assured calm. He holds a miniature frame and a brush, suggesting introspection and craftsmanship, while architectural ruins and mythological figures swirl in the background. Litvinov blends Renaissance grandeur, surreal elements, and baroque drama to reflect on the role of the artist in a collapsing or decaying world. The ruins may symbolize cultural memory, the weight of history, or the transience of fame. The expression is both playful and profound — a reminder that creativity survives even in the face of destruction, and that the artist remains both a witness and a participant in the ongoing story of civilization.
