Description
Unknown 2 – Framed Contemporary Pastel Portrait with Goggles
“Unknown 2" is part of Margarita Ziman's evocative series "The Unknown Ones", where identity, social perception, and internal depth are examined through surreal portraiture. Rendered in soft dry pastels on 160g professional pastel paper, this striking figure is both visible and concealed — her oversized goggles and poised expression shielding what lies within.
This work invites the viewer to reflect on society's polished appearances and the hidden truths each person carries. We broadcast idealized versions of ourselves, wrapped in culturally accepted signals of success. And yet, beneath the surface remains a secret self — unresolved, unspoken, unseen.
With its futuristic tones, minimalist background, and masterful pastel handling, the work exudes quiet intensity and psychological intrigue. The piece is professionally framed with a wooden frame, passe-partout, and protective plexiglass, ensuring it remains as timeless as the themes it addresses.

Presentation
Margarita Zipman is a Moscow-based artist whose work explores human emotionality and the personas we project—both in public and private spheres. She is inspired by the modern individual, by the behavioral archetypes shaped by nature and refined by society. Through her art, Margarita observes the metamorphosis of identity over time and in various life circumstances, studying the emotional masks people choose and the roles they adopt.
Her creative process is a search for authenticity. In series like Totems, she depicts animals with human eyes, revealing that no matter what "skins" we wear, we carry within us the full weight of our past—pain, vulnerability, and the lessons of experience. Her work invites viewers to reconnect with emotional sincerity, which is increasingly hidden beneath the surface of modern life. Her artistic motto is: “Empathy will save the world."
Margarita Zipman has held solo exhibitions in Russia and abroad, including Totems at Art Gallery Zurich and an ongoing display of new works at the private art space of the M-Invest Mansion in Moscow. Among her many group exhibitions, a notable highlight is Pastelium at the New Tretyakov Gallery, part of the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. Her works are held in private collections across Russia and Europe.
She is currently developing a new series titled Contemporary Woman and Her Choice, set to be presented at select exhibitions in 2026.
