Tjukurpa Mulayangu (Rêve de Mulayangu), 2023

Atipalku Intjalki

“Tjukurpa Mulayangu is a place of human law. They created this place and this camp. Mulayangu created this place. To the west is the other side of Amata, my father's country. It is a sacred place called Tankalanya. That is all I can say."

Atipalku Intjalki presents a symbolic aerial view of his ancestral land where the creation story of Mulayangu is played out, a secret human story linked to the initiation of young men, which the artist cannot therefore explicitly reveal to the uninitiated. The painting reveals the various sites and ceremonial locations associated with the story, with the main site of the men's ceremony arguably the largest circle, and with at least one complementary women's ceremony site in the story, and of course elements of the landscape that the artist has incorporated to celebrate his land.
