The Oil painting Cardboard titled "Life by the village river" presents a vivid and nostalgic portrayal of rural life, where the harmony of people, nature, and simple daily work unfolds in a serene yet lively composition. The scene is centered on a river that reflects the light of the sky and the vibrant hues of the surrounding greenery. Painted in broad, confident strokes, the water glistens with blues, silvers, and soft greens, its surface dotted with ripples and reflections that suggest both calmness and movement. The river here is more than a geographic feature; it is a life-giving force, a place of work, gathering, and quiet reflection for the people of the village. In the foreground, the viewer is immediately drawn to the wooden planks stretching into the water, serving as rustic bridges and platforms for the villagers. Their uneven, weathered boards, rendered in earthy browns and reds, convey the authenticity of hand-built structures, shaped by years of practical use. On one of these planks, a woman is depicted carrying two buckets of water with a yoke across her shoulders. Her strong posture and purposeful stride emphasize the timeless rhythm of rural chores, her figure embodying both resilience and grace. Her red kerchief and dark skirt add splashes of vivid color that stand out against the cooler tones of the river, making her presence central to the story of the scene. Further along the river, two figures are seen on another wooden plank: one seated, the other standing, both engaged in fishing. Their casual postures suggest a blend of work and leisure, as fishing in a village often represents both sustenance and pastime. Their presence adds a sense of human scale to the vastness of the water and underscores the deep connection between the villagers and the river. A small boat rests quietly near the far bank, painted in muted tones, symbolizing readiness and the quiet coexistence of human craft with the natural flow of life. Beyond the river, the middle ground expands into a lush green meadow dotted with houses and barns. The structures, with their weathered wooden walls and tin roofs painted in grays, reds, and blues, exude a rustic charm. Some roofs are marked with patches of wear, yet their bright colors bring life and vibrancy to the village panorama.
