Description
In Hello Miss Daisy, Keith Zenda captures the warmth, resilience, and everyday joy of African womanhood. A mother, radiant in bright yellow and pink, cycles confidently with her child tied securely on her back, their bond symbolizing strength and love in motion. The textured brushstrokes and vivid palette breathe life into a familiar village scene—an ode to motherhood, perseverance, and grace. Zenda's use of layered mixed media adds depth and rhythm, turning a simple act of transport into a celebration of life, community, and the enduring spirit of Zimbabwean women.
Presentation
Keith Zenda (born 19 June 1985) is a self-taught, award-winning visual artist from rural Chirumanzu, Zimbabwe. He discovered his artistic gift at the age of six and began painting professionally in his teens. Deeply rooted in the spirit of Ubuntu, his work portrays African life, identity, and ancestral heritage with bold emotion and symbolic clarity.
Keith's art has gained international recognition, exhibiting in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Dubai, Mumbai, Zurich, Berlin, and New York. Notable accolades include wins at “Black Like Me" in South Africa and the 2021 Morgan & Co Artspiration competition at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. In 2022, he received two NAMA Award nominations for Outstanding Two-Dimensional Work.
Beyond the canvas, Keith is devoted to community upliftment through art. In 2017, he founded ArtZenda, an art centre in Gweru that supports disadvantaged youth, women, and artists with disabilities. Through mentorship, exhibitions, and training in sustainable art practices, he empowers the next generation to find purpose and expression. He is currently establishing a new art and culture centre in Harare to expand this mission.
Zenda's unique approach—often referred to as “Zendaism"—merges traditional beliefs, contemporary social themes, and personal storytelling. His work bridges past and present, urban and rural, personal and political—making him a powerful voice for Zimbabwean art on the global stage.
