Keith Zenda – Painting the Spirit of Zimbabwe, Empowering Through Art.
Keith Zenda (born 19 June 1985) is a self-taught, award-winning visual artist from rural Chirumanzu, Zimbabwe. He discovered his artistic gift at the age of six and began painting professionally in his teens. Deeply rooted in the spirit of Ubuntu, his work portrays African life, identity, and ancestral heritage with bold emotion and symbolic clarity.
Keith's art has gained international recognition, exhibiting in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Dubai, Mumbai, Zurich, Berlin, and New York. Notable accolades include wins at “Black Like Me" in South Africa and the 2021 Morgan & Co Artspiration competition at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. In 2022, he received two NAMA Award nominations for Outstanding Two-Dimensional Work.
Beyond the canvas, Keith is devoted to community upliftment through art. In 2017, he founded ArtZenda, an art centre in Gweru that supports disadvantaged youth, women, and artists with disabilities. Through mentorship, exhibitions, and training in sustainable art practices, he empowers the next generation to find purpose and expression. He is currently establishing a new art and culture centre in Harare to expand this mission.
Zenda's unique approach—often referred to as “Zendaism"—merges traditional beliefs, contemporary social themes, and personal storytelling. His work bridges past and present, urban and rural, personal and political—making him a powerful voice for Zimbabwean art on the global stage.
